This song was written in New Orleans, LA and inspired by a trip to the Holy Cross levee in the lower 9th, where Kramer & Helen once lived. Whilst sitting enjoying the view, they saw a pelican swimming against the Mississippi River current on an unmoving path. Like time, the river is always moving in one direction and the song is a reflection of looking back as we move forward to the unknown. The pelican is the muse of the Mississippi, who knows what's to come. Kramer’s grandmother sold paintings in Jackson Square in the 1960’s and his grandfather worked on the River barges along the Mississippi. The “Let your soul fly” ending is a testament to life, time and the inspirations that guide us to live our own stories on this earth- to feel free and be yourself.
